Mechanism of action

Fenkarol - antiallergic, antihistamine. Blocks histamine H1 receptors. It activates diamine oxidase, an enzyme that inactivates histamine, and reduces the content of histamine in the tissues. It weakens the hypotensive effect of histamine, the effect on vascular permeability and the spasmogenic effect on the smooth muscles of the bronchi and intestines. It has a slight m-anticholinergic activity. No pronounced inhibitory effect on the central nervous system.

Indications and usage

- Pollinosis.
- Acute and chronic urticaria.
- Swelling Kwinke.
- Allergic rhinitis.
- Dermatosis (eczema, neurodermatitis, pruritus, etc.).

Contraindications

- Individual intolerance to the drug.
- Pregnancy.
- Lactation period.

Dosage and administration

The drug should be taken orally, after meals. The course of treatment for adults - 10-20 days, if necessary - again. Duration of treatment for children 10-15 days.
Recommended dosages: for adults - 25-50 mg 3-4 times a day (maximum daily dose - 200 mg); children from 2 to 3 years - 5 mg 2-3 times a day; children 3-7 years, 10 mg 2 times a day; Children 7-12 years old - 10-15 mg 2-3 times a day.

The absence of a pronounced anticholinergic effect makes it possible to prescribe to patients who are contraindicated in antihistamines with anticholinergic activity.
The impact on the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms: persons whose profession requires a quick mental and motor response should first be determined (by short-term assignment) whether the drug does not have a sedative effect.

Drug Interactions

Does not enhance the inhibitory effect of alcohol and hypnotic drugs on the central nervous system. Possessing weak M-anticholinergic properties, it can reduce the motility of the gastrointestinal tract and increases the absorption of slowly absorbed drugs (for example, indirect anticoagulants - coumarins).

Overdosage

Symptoms: dry mucous membranes, headache, vomiting, abdominal pain and other dyspeptic symptoms.
Treatment: symptomatic. It is necessary to flush the stomach, take activated charcoal, immediately consult a doctor.

Storage conditions

The drug should be stored in a dry, dark place.
