Mechanism of action

Pyrantel is an anthelmintic agent acting on nematodes.

The drug acts on parasites in the early phase of development and on their mature forms, does not affect the larvae during their migration in the tissues.

Pyrantel acts on the following nematodes:

- Enterobius vermicularis.
- Ascaris lumbricoides.
- Ancylostoma doudenale.
- Necator americanus.
- Trichostrongylus orientalis.
- Trichostrongylus colubriformis.

In the case when infection with only the human nematode is noted, the pyrantel can be used in the lowest dose at one time 5 mg of active ingredient per 1 kg of body weight.

In case of ascariasis and enterobiasis, as well as mixed invasions by these parasites: The dose intended for the entire course (10 mg / kg body weight) is applied once.

In case of hookworm. The daily dose (10 mg / kg body weight) is used for 3 days.

For massive invasions of Necator americanus, a dose of 20 mg / kg of body weight is recommended for 2 days.
