Mechanism of action
Rameron is an antidepressant.
Blocks central presynaptic? 2 -receptors, which increases noradrenergic neurotransmission, as well as enhances neurotransmission in serotonergic synapses only through 5-HT 1 receptors, since 5-HT 2 - and 5-HT 3 receptors are blocked. Weakens the severity of symptoms such as anhedonia, psychomotor retardation, sleep disturbances, weight loss, suicidal thoughts, mood swings, loss of interest in life. Antidepressant effect develops after 7-14 days of treatment.
Indications and usage
Depressive conditions requiring pharmacotherapy.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to mirtazapine.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Clinical data on the efficacy and safety of Remeron during pregnancy and lactation are not available.
Experimental studies on animals showed no teratogenic effect.
Dosage and administration
For adults, the effective daily dose is usually 15-45 mg. The standard daily dose is 30 mg.Appointed mainly 1 time / day before bedtime. Therapy should be continued after the complete disappearance of the clinical symptoms of depression for at least another 4-6 months. Drug should be canceled gradually.
In elderly patients, the recommended dose is the same as in younger patients.
In children, clinical studies on the use of the drug were not conducted.
Adverse reactions
Possible: Some increase in appetite and weight gain, drowsiness in the first weeks of treatment.
Seldom: Orthostatic hypotension.
Very rarely: Convulsions, tremor, myoclonus, edema, increased plasma transaminase activity, skin rashes, reversible inhibition of bone marrow hematopoiesis.
Special notes
With caution, the drug is prescribed to patients with epilepsy and organic brain damage, with impaired liver and / or kidney function, acute cardiovascular disease, hypotension, patients with acute angle-closure glaucoma, diabetes mellitus.
It should be borne in mind that when symptoms such as an increase in body temperature, sore throat, stomatitis appear during the period of taking the drug, treatment should be stopped and a blood test should be performed.
Remeron should not be prescribed simultaneously with MAO inhibitors and for 2 weeks after their withdrawal.
During the period of drug treatment should refrain from alcohol.
Influence on ability to drive motor vehicles and control mechanisms: Remeron is prescribed with caution to patients engaged in potentially hazardous activities,requiring increased attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving vehicles).
Drug interactions
With simultaneous use of Remeron can enhance the sedative effect of benzodiazepines, as well as the inhibitory effect on the central nervous system of ethanol and ethanol-containing drugs.
Overdosage
Symptoms: lethargy, drowsiness.
