Active ingredient and dosage form

Glucovance - coated tablets:

1 pill contains Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg, glibenclamide 2.5 and 5 mg; 30 and 60 pieces per pack.

Mechanism of action

Combined hypoglycemic drug for oral administration.

Glucovance is a fixed combination of two oral hypoglycemic agents of different pharmacological groups.

Metformin belongs to the group of biguanides and reduces the level of glucose in blood serum by increasing the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to the action of insulin and increasing glucose uptake. Metformin reduces the absorption of carbohydrates from the gastrointestinal tract and inhibits gluconeogenesis in the liver. It also has a beneficial effect on blood lipid composition, reducing the level of total cholesterol, LDL and TG.

Indications and usage

Type 2 diabetes in adults: as a second-line drug for dietary therapy, physical exercise, and previous therapy with metformin or glibenclamide;

Contraindications

hypersensitivity to metformin, glibenclamide or other sulfonylurea derivatives, as well as to excipients for women); acute conditions that can lead to changes in kidney function: dehydration, severe infection, shock, intravascular injection of iodine-containing contrast agents; acute or chronic diseases, schiesya hypoxic tissues: cardiac or respiratory failure, recent myocardial infarction, shock, liver failure, porphyria, pregnancy, breastfeeding, concomitant use of miconazole, infectious diseases, major surgery, trauma; extensive burns and other conditions that require insulin therapy, chronic alcoholism, acute alcohol intoxication, impaired liver function, lactic acidosis (including a history of).

Adverse reactions

They are frequent symptoms at the beginning of treatment and in most cases pass by themselves and do not require special treatment.
