Active ingredient and dosage form

vaginal tablets: active substance - Clotrimazole 100, 200 or 500 mg
Excipients: lactose, corn starch, aerosil, soda, tartaric acid, Magnesium stearate;

1% ointment: 1 g ointment contains 10 mg of clotrimazole;

Mechanism of action

Clotrimazole is an imidazole derivative. Antifungal broad-spectrum agent. The effect of the drug is associated with a violation of the synthesis of ergosterol, which is part of the cell membrane of fungi, which causes a change in its structure and properties and leads to lysis of the cell.
Dermatophytes, yeast fungi (genus Candida, Torulopsis glabrata, genus Rhodotorula), mold fungi, as well as the pathogen Pityriasis versicolor (lichen-colored lichen) and the causative agent are sensitive to clotrimazole.
In addition, it has an antimicrobial effect against gram-positive (staphylococcus and streptococcus) and gram-negative bacteria (Bacteroides, Gardnerella vaginalis), as well as against Trichomonas vaginalis, Malasseria furfur, Corinebacterium minussimum.

Indications and usage

Vaginal tablets
Genital infections caused by Candida and / or Trichomonas vaginalis yeast fungi (vulvovaginal candidiasis, trichomoniasis), genital superinfection caused by bacteria sensitive to clotrimazole; with the preventive purpose before gynecological procedures.
Cream
Dermatomycosis, versicolor versicolor, erythrasma, vulvovaginal candidiasis or balanitis.
Ointment
Fungal diseases of the skin, mikozy skin folds, feet;
pityriasis versicolor, erythrasma, superficial candidiasis caused by dermatophytes, yeast (including the genus Candida), mold and other fungi and pathogens sensitive to clotrimazole;
mycoses complicated by secondary pyoderma.
Solution for external use
Fungal lesions of the skin and mucous membranes. Mycoses of the feet / hands, smooth skin of the body, limbs, folds, beard, mustache, scalp, caused by dermatophytes. Pityriasis versicolor, viewer, candidiasis of the skin, mucous genitalia, paronychia.

Dosage and administration

Vaginal tablets
For the treatment of vaginal infections, 1 pill (100-500 mg) is prescribed 1 time per day (in the evening).
Vaginal pills are inserted as far as possible into the vagina.
The duration of treatment is 6 days.
If necessary, the treatment can be repeated.

Ointment cream
Outwardly. Apply a thin layer 2-3 times a day on previously cleaned (using soap with a neutral pH value) and dry affected skin and gently rub. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disease, localization of pathological changes and the effectiveness of therapy.
Treatment of ringworms spend at least 4 weeks, scaly depriving -1-3 weeks.
In case of fungal diseases of the skin of the legs, therapy is recommended to continue for at least 2 weeks after elimination of the symptoms of the disease.

Solution for external use
A few drops of the solution should be easily rubbed into the changed skin 2-3 times / day. After eliminating the acute symptoms of the disease, treatment should continue for at least another 4 weeks.
With ringworm the drug should be used for another 2 weeks after the elimination of all symptoms of the disease in order to prevent recurrence of the disease.

Adverse reactions

Spasms of the lower GI tract, generalized erythema, rash.
Local reactions: redness of the mucous membranes, burning sensation and tingling.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to clotrimazole, I trimester of pregnancy.

Special notes

To prevent the spread of urogenital infections requires simultaneous treatment of sexual partners.When trichomoniasis for a more successful treatment in conjunction with clotrimazole should be prescribed other drugs that have a systemic effect (for example, Metronidazole inside).
Vaginal pills are not recommended during menstruation.
In the case of an unintended method of using the drug (orally), the following symptoms are possible - anorexia, nausea, vomiting, gastralgia, abnormal liver function, rarely drowsiness, hallucinations, pollakiuria, skin allergic reactions. In these situations, it is necessary to take activated charcoal and consult a doctor.

If you develop allergic reactions or irritation, treatment should be stopped and another therapy should be selected.
In case of ringworm, it is recommended to apply the solution after each washing of the feet.
It is not recommended to apply the drug on the skin in the eye area.
If after 4 weeks from the start of treatment no clinical improvement is noted, it is necessary to confirm the diagnosis microbiologically and exclude another cause of the disease.

Drug Interactions

Reduces the effect of polyene antibiotics (amphotericin, Nystatin, natamycin, etc.). Para-hydroxybenzoic acid propyl ester in high concentrations enhances the antifungal effect of clotrimazole, and Dexamethasone reduces it.
With simultaneous use with nystatin, clotrimazole activity may be reduced.
