Clotrimazole is an imidazole derivative, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent. Violates the synthesis of ergosterol, which is part of the cell membrane of fungi, which causes a change in its structure and properties and leads to cell lysis.
It also has antibacterial and antiprotozoal (trichomonacid) effects.
Dermatophytes, yeast fungi (genus Candida, Torulopsis glabrata, kind of Rhodotorula), mold fungi, as well as pathogen Pityriasis versicolor (lichen colored) and the causative agent of erythrasma.
In addition, it has an antimicrobial effect against gram-positive (staphylococci and streptococci) and gram-negative bacteria (Bacteroides, Gardnerella vaginalis)as well as in relation to Trichomonas vaginalis, Malassezia furfur, Corynebacterium minutissimum.
Clotrimazole is characterized by a broad spectrum of fungicidal action, is active against dermatophytes (Trichophyton spp., Epidermophyton spp. and etc.), Candida spp., Aspergillus spp., Malassezia furfur and others, some strains of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
