Pharmacology

cream - antifungal drug for local use. Terbinafine active substance Thermicon, is an allylamine and has a broad spectrum of antifungal action. Terbinafine has a fungicidal effect against dermatophytes, molds and some dimorphic fungi. Activity against yeast fungi, depending on their species, can be fungicidal or fungistatic.

Terbinafine disrupts the early stages of ergosterol biosynthesis in fungi. This leads to a deficiency of ergosterol and intracellular accumulation of squalene, which causes the death of the fungal cell. The action of terbinafine is carried out by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, located on the cell membrane of the fungus. This enzyme does not belong to the cytochrome P450 system. Terbinafine does not affect the metabolism of hormones or other drugs. As a result, the early stage of sterol biosynthesis is disturbed.

Indications
Fungal infections of the skin caused by dermatophytes such as Trichophyton (including T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, Trichophyton verrucosum, Trichophyton violaceum), Microsporum canis, Epidermophyton floccosum. Pityriasis versicolor, caused by Pityrosporum orbiculare (also known as Malassezia furfur).

Dosage and administration

Thermikon The cream can be applied to adults and children from 12 years of age once or twice a day, depending on the evidence. Before applying the drug must be cleaned and dried the affected areas. The cream is applied with a thin layer on the affected skin and surrounding areas and lightly rubbed. For infections accompanied by diaper rash (under the mammary glands, in the interdigital spaces, between the buttocks, in the groin area), the places of application of the cream can be covered with gauze, especially at night.

The duration of treatment and frequency of use - 7 days 1 or 2 times a day.

Reducing the severity of clinical manifestations is usually observed in the first days of treatment. In the case of irregular treatment or its premature termination, there is a risk of recurrence of the infection. In the event that after a week of treatment there are no signs of improvement, the diagnosis should be verified.

The use of this drug in children under 12 years is not recommended.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to terbinafine or to any other component that is part of the drug.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

The drug during pregnancy should be used only for very strict indications and if the potential therapeutic effect exceeds the possible risk of therapy.

If necessary, the appointment of the drug during lactation should decide on the termination of breastfeeding.

Side effects
In the place of application of the drug in rare cases there was a redness, itching or burning sensation, however, these phenomena rarely led to the need to stop treatment. These above symptoms should be distinguished from allergic reactions, such as urticaria, which rarely occur, but when they occur, treatment should be stopped.
