Active ingredient and dosage form
Streptocid ointment 10% - ointment:
100 g ointments contain sulfanilamide 10 g; in banks of 25 g.
Mechanism of action
Antimicrobial bacteriostatic agent, sulfanilamide. The mechanism of action of Streptocid ointment 10% is due to competitive antagonism with PABA, inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase, impaired synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid, necessary for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.
Indications and usage
Purulent wounds, infected burns, erysipelas.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, diseases of the hematopoietic system, renal failure, thyrotoxicosis.
Adverse reactions
Headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, cyanosis, leukopenia, agranulocytosis, allergic reactions.
Dosage and administration
Locally, Streptocidal ointment 10% applied to the affected skin.
