Sulgin - tablets:

Mechanism of action

Sulgin is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent derived from sulfanilamide. Sulfaguanidine is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms (including causative agents of intestinal infections). Poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Acts predominantly in the intestinal lumen. The mechanism of action of Sulgin is due to competitive antagonism with PABA and competitive inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase, which leads to disruption of the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid, necessary for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.

Indications and usage

Bacterial dysentery. Colitis and enterocolitis with diarrhea. Carriage of dysenteric sticks, typhoid sticks. Preparation for operations on the small and large intestine.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides, pregnancy and lactation.

Adverse reactions

Possible: crystalluria, development of vitamin B deficiency.

Dosage and administration

Sulgin is taken orally. In acute intestinal infections a single dose for adults is 1-2 g; frequency of use: 1st day - 6 times, 2-3rd day - 5 times, 4th day - 4 times, 5th day - 3 times / day. The course of treatment is 5-7 days.Children under 3 years old - 200 mg / kg / day. in 3 doses for 7 days; children older than 3 years - 400-750 mg (depending on age) 4 times / day. For the prevention of postoperative complications: 50 mg / kg every 8 hours for 5 preoperative days and at the same dose for 7 days after surgery.
