Pharmacological properties:

Alpisarin has antiviral activity against DNA-containing viruses: herpes simplex virus ( Herpes  simplex)  I and II like Varicella  zoster (shingles virus and varicella zoster), a cytomegalovirus. In experiments in  vitro The inhibitory effect of Alpisarin on HIV is shown. The inhibitory effect of Alpisarin on the reproduction of the virus is particularly pronounced in the early stages of the disease. The mechanism of action is realized extracellularly. The drug inhibits the penetration of the virus into the cell, violating its reproduction.

Alpisarin has a moderate bacteriostatic effect on certain types of gram-positive ( Staphylococcus  aureus) and gram-negative bacteria ( Escherichia  coli), mushrooms ( Microsporum  canis) and pathogenic protozoa ( Entamoeba  histolytica,  Thrichomonas  vaginalis).

Alpisarin has an immunostimulating effect on cellular and humoral immunity, the drug induces the production of γ-interferon in blood cells.

It is a low-toxic substance, does not possess mutagenic and local irritating properties.
