Active ingredient and dosage form
Nifedipine - tablets:
1 pill contains nifedipine - 10 mg; 50 pieces per pack
Mechanism of action
Nifedipine has antianginal and antihypertensive activity. The basis of the action of the drug is the ability to delay the penetration of Calcium ions into the cells of the myocardium and smooth muscles of the blood vessels along the "slow" channels of the cell membranes. Under the influence of the drug, the coronary vessels expand, the coronary circulation improves, and the oxygen consumption in the myocardium decreases. The drug also causes arterial vasodilation, reduces the total peripheral vascular resistance and lowers blood pressure. Nifedipine does not have a depressant effect on the conducting system of the heart.
Indications and usage
Apply strictly on doctor's prescription in order to avoid complications! Essential hypertension - monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs. Relief of hypertensive crises. Ischemic heart disease - stable angina; variant angina. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (including obstructive), Raynaud's syndrome.
Contraindications
Hypotension (systolic pressure below 90 mm Hg), tachycardia, collapse, stroke, cardiogenic shock, heart failure in the decompensation stage, severe aortic stenosis, acute period of myocardial infarction (during the first 4 weeks), hypersensitivity to nifedipine; childhood.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Nifedipine is not used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Dosage and treatment is determined by the attending physician in each case individually. The initial dose of nifedipine is 1 pill (10 mg), 2 times a day. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 2 pills (20 mg) 4 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 80 mg.
Adverse reactions
At the beginning of treatment, headaches, dizziness, lethargy, drowsiness, hypotension, flushing of the face and feeling of blood flow, palpitations, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, and constipation may occur. Rarely observed gingival hyperplasia (after a longer intake), allergic rash, paresthesia, edema of the lower limbs, retrosternal (chest pain), increased angina attacks, muscle pain, visual disturbances, heart rhythm disturbances, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, gynecomastia. The development of arthritis (mainly the knee joint), an increase in appetite and / or body weight is very rare.
