Xylene is a vasoconstrictor for local use in ENT practice. It stimulates alpha-adrenoreceptors, causes vasoconstriction, reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa and the amount of secreted secretions, restores nasal passability, and facilitates nasal breathing.
Rhinitis: allergic, with colds, sinusitis, otitis media (as part of combination therapy to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa); preparation for rhinoscopy.
Hypersensitivity, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, marked atherosclerosis, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, chronic rhinitis, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Adults and children over 6 years old are injected with 1-2 injections of a 0.1% solution of xylometazoline in each nasal passage 2-3 times a day.
For infants and children under the age of 6 years, apply a 0.05% solution. Do not use the drug more often 3 times a day and not more than 3-5 days.
Do not use Xylene without a break for more than 3-5 days.
Burning sensation in the nasopharynx, irritation or dryness of the nasal mucosa, nausea, headache, palpitations, increased blood pressure.
Eye contact should be avoided. You can not use more than 3-5 days without a break.
With very long use atrophy of the nasal mucosa is possible.
MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants and drugs can enhance systemic effects.
Symptoms: in case of accidental ingestion - arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, confusion.
Treatment: symptomatic.
