Galazolin nasal gel in the form of a colorless or almost colorless, transparent or slightly opalescent, thick liquid.
1 g:
- Xylometazoline hydrochloride 500 mcg or 1 mg
Excipients: sodium chloride, sodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt, benzalkonium chloride, sorbitol, hydroxyethylcellulose, glycerol, purified water.
Farmgroup:anti-congestive agent - a vasoconstrictor (alpha adrenomimetic).
Pharmaceutical action:Galazolin - a vasoconstrictor drug for local use in ENT practice.
Alpha-adrenomimetik from the group of imidazole derivatives. In low concentrations acts on α2-adrenoreceptors, in high concentrations has an effect on α1-adrenoreceptors. When applied topically causes a narrowing of the blood vessels, which leads to a decrease in edema and hyperemia of the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx and reduce the amount of discharge, facilitate nasal breathing.
The effect of the drug begins after 5-10 minutes and lasts for 5-6 hours.
Pharmacokinetics:When using the drug in the recommended doses, xylometazoline is practically not subjected to systemic absorption, in connection with this, there are no data on the pharmacokinetics of Galazolin.
Indications:- acute rhinitis of viral or bacterial origin;
- allergic rhinitis;
- acute and chronic sinusitis;
- pollinosis;
- otitis media (in order to reduce swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx).
Category of action on the fetus:The drug Galazolin should be used only after assessing the risk-benefit ratio for the fetus and the mother.
It is not allowed to exceed the recommended dose during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
Contraindications:- atrophic rhinitis;
- angle-closure glaucoma;
- arterial hypertension;
- pronounced atherosclerosis;
- tachycardia;
- hyperthyroidism;
- Surgery on the meninges (in history);
- simultaneous administration of MAO inhibitors and a period of 14 days after the end of their use;
- pregnancy;
- children's age up to 6 years (for 0.1% nasal drops) and up to 2 years (for 0.05% nasal drops);
- children's age up to 12 years (for 0.1% nasal gel) and up to 3 years (for 0.05% nasal gel);
- Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug Galazolin.
The drug should be used with caution during lactation, in diabetes mellitus, angina pectoris of functional class III-IV, prostatic hyperplasia, pheochromocytoma.
Dosing:Galazolin® in the form of drops of 0.05% is prescribed to children aged 2 to 6 years, 1-2 drops in each nostril 1-2 times / day.
Galazolin® in the drops of 0.1% is prescribed for adults and children over 6 years old in the form of 2-3 drops in each nostril 2-3 times / day.
Galazolin® in the form of a nasal gel 0.05% is used by administration to children aged 3 to 6 years, 1 dose (1 administration) in each nostril 1-2 times / day.Children between the ages of 6 and 12 are prescribed, on average, 1-2 doses (1-2 injections) in each nostril 2-3 times / day.
When administered with a dispensing device, 1 dose of a nasal gel 0.05% contains 50 mcg xylometazoline.
Galazolin® in the form of a nasal gel 0.1% is used by administering to adults and children over 12 years old in 1 dose (1 administration) in each nostril 2-3 times / day.
When administered with a dispenser device, 1 dose of 0.1% nasal gel contains 100 mcg xylometazoline.
Before using the nasal gel, each time it is necessary to remove the nozzle, then press the dispenser 3-5 times until the drug appears.
Do not use the drug in the form of a nasal gel or drops more than 3 times / day. The course of treatment is no more than 3-5 days. The maximum duration of use is 2 weeks.
Side effect:Local reactions: with frequent and / or prolonged use - irritation and / or dryness of the nasal mucosa, burning and paresthesia of the nasal mucosa, sneezing, hypersecretion of the nasal mucosa; rarely - swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity.
Systemic reactions: rarely - palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia, blurred vision; with prolonged use in high doses - depression.
Overdose:There are no cases of overdose in adults. In case of using too large a dose or improper use, the ingestion of drops and absorption of the active substance from the gastrointestinal tract may occur.It occurs mainly in children. In this case, there is a pronounced sedative effect.
Symptoms: if the drug is accidentally swallowed (more often in children), tachycardia, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, drowsiness, confusion, respiratory depression or irregular breathing are noted.
Treatment: conduct symptomatic therapy.
Interaction:With simultaneous use of xylometazoline (overdose or accidental ingestion) with tricyclic antidepressants or MAO inhibitors (including before the use of xylometazoline) an increase in blood pressure is noted.
Special instructions:Before use, you must clean the nasal passages.
Do not use the drug in patients with chronic or vasomotor rhinitis, because they have a tendency to use the drug for more than 2 weeks.
Prolonged use of the drug (more than 2 weeks) may lead to secondary dilation of the blood vessels and subsequently to iatrogenic rhinitis.
