Mechanism of action

Xymelin - a vasoconstrictor drug for local use in ENT practice, alpha adrenomimetic. Causes constriction of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating the swelling and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Relieves nasal breathing in rhinitis. In therapeutic doses does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause hyperemia. The action comes in a few minutes and lasts for 10-12 hours.

Indications and usage

- acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis (rhinitis);
- acute allergic rhinitis;
- pollinosis;
- sinusitis;
- Eustachitis;
- otitis media (to reduce swelling of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx);
- preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.

Dosage and administration

Xymelin is used intranasally, adults and children over 6 years old - 2-3 drops in each nasal passage 1-3 times a day. Xymelin is applied for no more than 7 days. Do not use in children under 2 years without a doctor's prescription.

Adverse reactions

With frequent and / or long-term use - irritation and / or dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, paresthesia, sneezing, hypersecretion.
Rarely - swelling of the nasal mucosa, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, high blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia, blurred vision; depression (with prolonged use of high doses).

Special notes

Do not self-exceed the recommended dose and use the drug for more than 7 days. If after this time the symptoms persist, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

Effect on ability to drive a vehicle or equipment
Xymelin does not affect the ability to drive vehicles or equipment.

Drug Interactions

When used together with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants, it can lead to an increase in blood pressure.

Overdosage

Symptoms: increase in blood pressure passing into a decrease in blood pressure, bradycardia, decrease in body temperature.
Treatment: symptomatic.
