10 or 30 pills per pack.

pharmachologic effect
Maltofer is a preparation containing iron in the form of a polymaltose complex of ferric hydroxide. This macromolecular complex is stable in the gastrointestinal tract and does not release iron in the form of free ions. Maltofer is similar in structure to the natural compound of iron with ferritin. Due to this similarity, iron (III) from the intestine enters the blood through active absorption. It is this property of Maltofer that explains the impossibility of poisoning with a preparation, in contrast to simple iron salts, the absorption of which occurs along a concentration gradient. The absorbed iron is retained in ferritin-bound form, mainly in the liver. Later, in the bone marrow, it is incorporated into the hemoglobin. Iron, a constituent of iron (III) - hydroxide of a polymaltose complex, does not possess prooxidant properties, which are inherent in simple salts of iron (II).
There is a correlation between the degree of iron deficiency and the amount of iron absorbed (the higher the iron deficiency, the better the absorption). Maximum iron absorption occurs in the duodenum and jejunum.

Maltofer chewable pills do not cause staining of the teeth.

Indications and usage

  • Treatment of latent and clinically pronounced iron deficiency (anemia).
  • Prevention of iron deficiency during pregnancy and lactation.

Contraindications

  • Excess iron content in the body (for example, hemosiderosis).
  • The breakdown of iron utilization mechanisms (for example, lead anemia, sideroachrestic anemia).
  • Non-iron deficiency anemia (for example, hemolytic anemia or megaloblastic anemia caused by a lack of vitamin B12)

Dosage and administration

Maltofer pills intended for oral administration. The dosage of the drug and the duration of therapy depend on the severity of iron deficiency. The daily dose of the drug can be taken once a day. Maltofer pills should be taken during or immediately after a meal. They can be chewed or swallowed whole.

Treatment of clinically pronounced iron deficiency (iron deficiency anemia): 1 pill 1-3 times a day for 3-5 months until the level of hemoglobin in the blood is normalized. After that, taking the drug should be continued for several more months in order to restore iron stores in the body (1 pill per day).

Pregnant women should take 1 Maltofer pill 2-3 times a day until hemoglobin levels normalize. Then, therapy should be continued at a dosage of 1 pill per day, at least until delivery, in order to restore iron stores.

The duration of therapy should be at least 2 months.

In the case of clinically severe iron deficiency, normalization of hemoglobin level occurs only 2-3 months after the start of treatment.

For the treatment of latent iron deficiency and for the prevention of iron deficiency, patients should take 1 pill of the drug per day.

Adverse reactions

Occasionally, there may be signs of gastrointestinal irritation, such as, for example, a feeling of fullness and pressure in the epigastric region, nausea, constipation, or diarrhea. The dark color of the stool is due to the removal of non-absorbed iron and has no clinical significance.

Special notes

In appointing the drug to patients with diabetes should consider that 1 pill contains 0.04 bread units.

In controlled studies in pregnant women after the first trimester of pregnancy, there was no adverse effect of the drug on the mother and fetus. There is no evidence of an adverse effect of the drug on the fetus during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Storage conditions

Store in a dark place and out of reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C.
