Mechanism of action

Drotaverine - myotropic action spasmolytic. On the chemical structure and pharmacological properties similar to papaverine, but surpasses it in effectiveness and duration of action. Drotaverine reduces the tone of smooth muscles of internal organs, reduces their physical activity. Has a vasodilating effect.

Indications and usage

Prevention and treatment of functional disorders and pain caused by smooth muscle spasm (including gastrointestinal spasms, urinary tract associated with cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, spasm of pyloric and cardiac stomach, spastic constipation, cardiac spasm;; proctitis, tenesmus; postoperative colic due to gas retention; due to nephrolithiasis, pyelitis); when conducting instrumental studies; spasms of peripheral arteries, cerebral vessels; algomenorrhea.

To reduce the excitability of the uterus during pregnancy; with a spasm of the uterine throat during childbirth, prolonged opening of the throat, postpartum contractions, threatening abortion.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, pronounced hepatic and renal failure, severe heart failure (low cardiac output syndrome), lactation period.

This dosage form does not apply to children under 3 years of age.

Due to the presence of monohydrate (milk sugar) in the lactose preparation, its administration is contraindicated in case of congenital lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Dosage and administration

Drotaverine is taken orally. Adults - 40-80 mg (1-2 tab.) 2-3 times a day. Children: up to 6 years - in a single dose of 10-20 mg (1 / 4-1 / 2 tabl.), 6-12 years - 20 mg (1/2 tab.) 1-2 times a day.

Dizziness, headache, insomnia, feeling of heartbeat, lowering blood pressure, allergic reactions, nausea, constipation, feeling of heat, sweating.

In the treatment of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer is used in combination with other drugs commonly prescribed to treat this group of diseases of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum.

When ingested in therapeutic doses, drotaverine does not affect the ability to drive and perform work that requires increased attention. With the appearance of any side effects, the question of driving vehicles and working on machine tools requires individual consideration.

With simultaneous use may weaken the anti-parkinsonian effect of levodopa.

Enhances the action of papaverine, bendazole and other antispasmodics (including
m-holinoblokatorov), lowering blood pressure caused by tricyclic antidepressants, quinidine and procainamide.

Reduces spasmogenic activity of morphine.

Phenobarbital increases the severity of the antispasmodic action of drotaverine.
