Mechanism of action

Ermital contains standard highly active Pancreatin, obtained from the pancreas of the pig in the form of microtablets resistant to the effects of gastric juice. The drug compensates for the deficiency of pancreatic enzymes, has a proteolytic, amylolytic and lipolytic action.Its enzymes (lipase, alpha-amylase, trypsin, chymotrypsin) promote the breakdown of proteins to amino acids, fats - to glycerol and fatty acids, starch - to dextrins and monosaccharides, improves the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract, normalizes digestion.
The release form of the drug provides complete release of microtablets resistant to gastric juice from the capsule in the stomach, followed by fine mixing of microtablets with intestinal contents and chyme and rapid release of enzymes from microtablets in the duodenum at pH> 5. The splitting products of pancreatic enzymes are absorbed in the intestine, either directly or after cleavage by intestinal enzymes.

Indications and usage

- To improve the digestion of food in patients with normal function of the gastrointestinal tract in case of errors in nutrition.
- Replacement therapy in case of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency: cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic ectomy, pancreatic cancer, ductal obstruction due to neoplasm (including obstruction of the pancreatic ducts, common bile duct), Shvahman syndrome, ordimone-rayon syndrome.

Contraindications

- Known hypersensitivity to pancreatic enzymes.
- Acute pancreatitis.

Dosage and administration

Inside Doses are selected individually depending on the severity of the disease and diet.
Dose calculation is carried out in terms of lipase activity units. Capsules should be swallowed whole during a meal, washed down with a large amount of liquid (water, juice); in case of difficulty swallowing, the capsules can be opened and their contents added to liquid food. Disintegration or chewing of micro-tablets or adding them to food with pH <5.5 leads to the destruction of their shell, which protects from the action of gastric juice. The recommended dose is 2-4 capsules Ermital 10 000 IU at the time of each meal. If necessary, the dose may be increased. Increasing the dose should be under the supervision of a physician. You can not exceed the daily dose of enzymes in the range of 15-20 thousand lipase units per kg of body weight. Therapy should be carried out against the background of abundant fluid intake.

Adverse reactions

Allergic reactions of immediate type (urticaria, lacrimation, runny nose, bronchospasm). Special notes

When taken in high doses, unusual symptoms and side effects from the gastrointestinal organs should be carefully controlled. With prolonged use with cystic fibrosis may develop constipation, strictures of the ileum and cecum, colitis.

When taking the drug Ermital may decrease the absorption of folic acid. Ermital reduces iron absorption. During the treatment with Ermital, it is possible to reduce the effectiveness of hypoglycemic agents for oral administration - acarbose and miglitol.

Overdosage

Symptoms: hyperuricuria, hyperuricemia.
Treatment: drug withdrawal, symptomatic therapy.
