Mechanism of action
Foliber - a complex of Vitamins of group B.
The lack of folic acid causes a violation of DNA synthesis in the cell, preparing for chromosome replication and division. The mechanism of action is due to the participation of folic acid in the form of tetrahydrofolate in the synthesis of nucleic acids and cell division, as well as participation as a coenzyme in the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines, which makes it a decisive factor in the formation of the CNS, which develops in humans 15-28 days after fertilization. The transformation of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate into tetrahydrofolate in the body can occur only as a result of the addition of a methyl group to homocysteine with the formation of methionine as a result of the action of methionine synthetase.
In this process, vitamin B 12 is involved as a limiting cofactor, so vitamin B 12 deficiency is similar in effects to insufficient activation of folic acid; In addition, vitamin B 12 is also involved in the capture of folic acid by the cells, therefore, when a cell experiences a primary deficiency of vitamin B 12, it also suffers a folate deficiency.
The pharmacological action of the drug Foliber is that its use allows overcoming the metabolic blockade observed in mothers of children with neural tube defects. The specific nature of this metabolic blockade is the metabolism of the essential amino acid methionine, in which folate and vitamin B 12 are key elements, since they are responsible for the re-methylation of homocysteine to methionine. 400 mcg of folic acid is the minimum effective daily dose recommended by the Centers for Disease Prevention (USA, UK, Australia) to healthy women as an additional daily intake to prevent the development of neural tube defects in the fetus.
The recommended daily intake of vitamin B 12 is 2 micrograms.
Prevention of folic acid deficiency and vitamin B 12 in women of childbearing age at the stages of pregnancy planning (at least 1 month before conception).
To prevent the development of neural tube defects in the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Dosage and administration
The drug should be used for 1 pill / day. before meals.
Drug Interactions
Foliber should not be used in combination with Methotrexate, since the latter acts as an antagonist of folic acid, inhibiting the enzyme hydrofolate reductase.
With simultaneous use of Foliber with antiepileptic drugs from the group of hydantoin can reduce the effects of the latter.
The drug should be stored in a dry place at a temperature not higher than 25 ° C.
