Mechanism of action

Zodac is a highly effective antihistamine, antiallergic agent.
The active substance of the drug, Cetirizine, belongs to the group of competitive histamine antagonists, blocks H1-histamine receptors. Cetirizine affects the histamine-dependent stage of allergic reactions, and also reduces the migration of eosinophils, limits the release of inflammatory mediators at the cell stage of an allergic reaction. Prevents the development and facilitates the course of allergic reactions, has antiallergic, antipruritic action, practically does not have anticholinergic and antiserotonin action.
In therapeutic doses, Zodac does not have a sedative effect.

Indications and usage

- seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis;
- pruritic allergic dermatosis;
- pollinosis (hay fever);
- urticaria (includingchronic idiopathic);
- Quincke swelling.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug; bronchospasm, cough; severe nephropathy; porphyria; pregnancy and lactation; children's age up to 1 year.

Dosage and administration

Zodac is prescribed by mouth, regardless of the meal. Before taking the drops dissolve in water.

Adults and children over 12 years old - 10 mg of cetirizine (20 drops).

Children from 6 to 12 years old - 10 mg of cetirizine (20 drops) 1 time per day or 5 mg of cetirizine (10 drops) 2 times a day, in the morning and in the evening.

Children from 2 to 6 years old - 5 mg of cetirizine (10 drops) 1 time per day or 2.5 mg of cetirizine (5 drops) 2 times a day, in the morning and in the evening.

Children from 1 to 2 years old - 2.5 mg (5 drops) 2 times a day.

Adverse reactions

Gastrointestinal: dry mouth, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, flatulence.
From the side of the central nervous system: headache, drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, agitation, migraine.
Allergic reactions: skin rash, angioedema, urticaria, pruritus.

Special notes

Care must be taken when prescribing the drug to patients with impaired liver and / or kidney function and the elderly.

During the period of treatment, it is necessary to refrain from engaging in potentially hazardous activities that require a high concentration of attention and quickness of psychomotor reactions.

Drug Interactions

It is not recommended to combine Zodac with other drugs without consulting a doctor.

If taken simultaneously with bronchodilators containing theophylline as the active ingredient, the frequency of side effects of Zodac can be increased.

Not recommended the simultaneous use of drugs that depress the central nervous system, and alcohol consumption.
