Indications
- non-specific ulcerative colitis (treatment of exacerbations and maintenance therapy in the remission phase);
- Crohn's disease (mild and moderate forms in the acute phase);
- rheumatoid arthritis;
- juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Dosage and administration
At UCK and Crohn's Disease for adults on the first day of treatment, 500 mg is prescribed 4 times / day; on the 2nd day - 1 g 4 times / day; in the 3rd and following days - 1.5-2 g 4 times / day. After subsiding of the acute clinical symptoms of the disease, the drug is prescribed in a maintenance dose of 500 mg 3-4 times / day for several months.
Children aged 5-7 years appoint 250-500 mg 3-6 times / day, children over 7 years old - 500 mg 3-6 times / day.
At rheumatoid arthritis for adults during the first week, the drug is prescribed 500 mg 1 time / day; within 2 weeks - 500 mg 2 times / day; within 3 weeks - 500 mg 3 times / day. The therapeutic daily dose of Sulfasalazine-EN can be from 1.5 to 3 g. The course of treatment is 6 months or more.
Children over 6 years old the drug is prescribed in a dose of 30-50 mg / kg of body weight / day, divided into 2-4 doses; for children over 16 years old the maximum daily dose is 2 g.
The drug should be taken after meals.
Side effect
Nervous system: headache, dizziness, tinnitus, ataxia, convulsions, sleep disorders, hallucinations, peripheral neuropathy.
Urogenital: renal dysfunction, interstitial nephritis.
Gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, anorexia, hepatitis, pancreatitis.
Respiratory: interstitial pneumonitis and other lung tissue damage.
Hemic and lymphatic: anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis.
From the reproductive system: transient oligospermia, sterility.
Allergic reactions: skin rash, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), malignant exudative erythema (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), fever, anaphylactic shock.
Other: possible staining in yellow skin, urine, soft contact lenses.
Contraindications

Use during pregnancy and lactation
The use of Sulfasalazine-EN in pregnancy is possible only under strict indications in the minimum effective dose. If the course of the disease allows, it is recommended to cancel the drug in the third trimester of pregnancy.
If necessary, the use of the drug during lactation should decide on the termination of breastfeeding.
Application for violations of the liver

With simultaneous use of Sulfasalazine-EH and antibiotics, the effectiveness of Sulfasalazine-EH may be reduced in ulcerative colitis, since antibiotics inhibit the intestinal flora.
