Mechanism of action

Furamag is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent belonging to the nitrofuran group. Furamagu resistance develops slowly and does not reach a high degree.

As a result of the action of nitrofurans, microorganisms secrete less toxins, and therefore the improvement of the patient’s general condition is possible even before the pronounced suppression of the growth of microflora.Nitrofurans activate the body's immune system: they increase the titer of complement and the ability of leukocytes to phagocytose microorganisms. In therapeutic doses, furazidine stimulates leukopoiesis.

Indications and usage

Infections caused by susceptible microorganisms:
- Urogenital infections (acute cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis).
- Gynecological infections.
- Infections of the skin and soft tissues.
- Severe infected burns.
- With the preventive purpose at urological operations (including cystoscopy, catheterization).

Contraindications

- Chronic renal failure severe.
- Pregnancy.
- Lactation period (breastfeeding).
- Children's age up to 3 years.
- Hypersensitivity to nitrofuran group drugs.
With caution apply the drug deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, in the neonatal period.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).

Dosage and administration

The drug should be taken orally after meals.
Adults appoint 50-100 mg 3 times / day.
Children older than 3 years are prescribed 25-50 mg (no more than 5 mg / kg body weight) 3 times / day.
The course of treatment is 7-10 days. If necessary, repeat the course of treatment should be a break for 10-15 days. For the prevention of infection (including during urological operations, cystoscopy, catheterization), the drug is prescribed 50 mg once for 30 minutes before the procedure. In case of skipping the drug, the next dose should be taken at the usual time.Do not take double the dose to compensate for the missed dose.

Special notes

To reduce the likelihood of side effects Furamag drink down with plenty of liquid. The patient should inform the doctor about any side effects that occur during treatment with the drug. During the period of treatment, the patient is advised to refrain from the use of alcoholic beverages, since there may be an increase in side effects.
Application for violations of renal function: toxic effects as a result of the use of the drug are more common in patients with reduced renal excretory function (the intensity of the metabolism of furazidin increases). With the appearance of side effects of the drug should be discontinued.

Drug Interactions

Furamag should not be used simultaneously with ristomycin, chloramphenicol, sulfonamides (the risk of hematopoiesis is increased). It is not recommended to prescribe drugs that can acidify urine (including Ascorbic acid, Calcium chloride) simultaneously with nitrofurans.

Overdosage

Symptoms: manifestations of a neurotoxic nature, ataxia, tremor.
Treatment: should drink plenty of fluids. To relieve acute symptoms of antihistamine drugs (diphenhydramine). For the prevention of neuritis it is possible to prescribe Vitamins (thiamine bromide).

Storage conditions

The drug should be stored in a dry, dark place at temperatures not above 25 ° C.
