Marvelon is a contraceptive (estrogen + progestogen). Marvelon is a combined oral contraceptive. Each pill contains a small amount of two different female hormones - desogestrel (progestogen) and ethinyl estradiol (estrogen).

While taking the drug, menstruation becomes less plentiful and painful.
Women taking birth control pills are less likely to have anemia, certain diseases of the uterus, ovaries, and mammary glands.

Dosage and administration

The package contains 21 tablets. Each pill indicates on which day of the week it should be taken. pills are taken orally, every day, at about the same time, with a small amount of water. Follow the direction indicated by the arrows until all pills are taken.Do not take pills for the next 7 days. During this period, menstruation should begin (bleeding after discontinuation of the drug). Typically, menstruation begins 2-3 days after taking the last pill. On the 8th day, even if your period continues, start taking the pills from the next pack.

How to start taking the drug Marvelon: eIf you have not used oral contraceptives during the last month: start taking Marvelon on the first day of the menstrual cycle (on the first day of your period). Take a pill that indicates this day of the week, then continue to take one pill per day in order. You can also start taking Marvelon for 2-5 days after the start of the menstrual cycle, but in this case you need to use additional non-trivial methods of contraception during the first 7 days of taking the pills in the first cycle.
When switching from other combination pills: You can start taking Marvelon the next day after taking the last pill of the drug you are using without any interruption. If the contraceptive package also contains inactive pills (without hormones), you can start taking Marvelon the next day after taking the last pill with hormones. You can start taking Marvelon pills and later, but no later than the next day after a break in taking the pills (or the next day after taking the last inactive pill).
When switching from progestogen-only pills (mini-pili): You can stop taking “mini-drank” any day and start taking Marvelon the next day at the same time. However, during the first seven days of taking Marvelon tablets, you must use additional methods of contraception.
When switching from an injection or implant: Start using Marvelon on the day when there should be the next injection or on the day of the implant removal. During the first seven days of taking Marvelon tablets, you must use additional methods of contraception.
After giving birth: It is recommended to wait for the onset of the first normal menstruation before starting to take Marvelon. If you are breastfeeding, you should consult a doctor.
After miscarriage or abortion: follow the doctor's recommendations.

If you want to stop taking Marvelon: you can do this anytime you want. If you stop taking the drug because you want to get pregnant, then before you try to conceive a child, it is usually recommended to wait until the first natural menstruation occurs. This will allow you to predict the date of birth of the child.

What to do if you miss the next drug intake: if you are late with taking the next pill in less than 12 hours, the effectiveness of the drug is preserved. Take the missed pill as soon as you remember, and take the next pill at the usual time.If you are late with taking a regular pill for more than 12 hours, then the effectiveness of the drug may be reduced. The more pills you missed, the higher the risk of reducing contraceptive effectiveness. Especially high risk of pregnancy, if you miss the pills at the beginning or at the end of the pack. Therefore, you must follow the rules below. More than one missed pill in a pack - consult a doctor.
1 missed pill in the 1st week: Take the missed pills as soon as you remember (even if you have to take two pills at the same time) and take the following pills at the usual time. Use additional contraceptive methods for the next seven days. If you had sexual intercourse during the week before skipping the pill, then pregnancy may occur. Report this to your doctor immediately.

1 missed pill in the 2nd week: Take the missed pills as soon as you remember (even if you have to take two pills at the same time) and take the following pills at the usual time. The effectiveness of the drug is maintained, so additional methods of contraception are not required.

1 missed pill in the 3rd week: You can choose one of the following schemes without resorting to additional contraceptive measures:
Take the missed pills as soon as you remember (even if you have to take two pills at the same time) and take the following pills at the usual time. Start the next package as soon as the current one ends, without taking a break in taking the drug.Bleeding with the cancellation may not be until the end of the second pack of the drug, but there may be spotting or unexpectedly abundant bleeding on the days of taking the pills.
Stop taking the pills from the currently used pack, take a break of 7 days or less (given the day you missed the pill) and start taking the pills from the next pack. In this case, you can always start taking pills from the next pack on the same day of the week, as usual.

Recommendations for vomiting or diarrhea: If vomiting or diarrhea occurs within 3–4 hours after taking the drug, absorption may not be complete. In this case, you should use the recommendations regarding the admission of the next drug intake.

If you want to delay the onset of menstruation: You can postpone your period if you start taking the pills from the next pack as soon as the previous one has finished (without a break). You can take the pills from the next pack until they run out. If you want to start your period, stop taking the pills. When you take pills from the second pack, you may experience unexpectedly heavy bleeding or spotting. Taking the pills from the next pack should start after a 7-day break.

If you want to change the day of the beginning of menstruation: when using the drug in accordance with the recommendations, menstruation begins on the same day every 4 weeks. If you want to change the day you start menstruating, take a shorter next break in the pill. For example, if menstruation usually begins on Friday, and you want it to start on Tuesday (three days earlier), you should start taking the pills from the next pack 3 days earlier than usual. If you take a too short break in taking the pill (for example, 3 days or less), then you may not have any bleeding during the break. While taking the pills from the next pack, there may be spotting or unusually heavy bleeding.

If you have an unexpected bleeding: as with other oral contraceptives, irregular vaginal bleeding (spotting or sudden vaginal bleeding) between menses may occur during the first few months. The drug in this case should be continued as usual. The appearance of intermenstrual bleeding during the first three months of administration does not mean that the contraceptive effect is reduced or that the drug does not suit you. Irregular vaginal bleeding usually stops after your body adapts to the drug (usually after three cycles of taking the pills). If the bleeding continues, become abundant, consult a doctor.

If you have no menstruation: if you took all the pills in a timely manner, you did not have vomiting or diarrhea, you did not take other medicines, then it is unlikely that you are pregnant. Keep taking marvelon as usual. If you did not have menstruation twice in a row, you may be pregnant. Do not start a new package until the doctor excludes pregnancy.
