Active ingredient
Betoptik eye drops:
1 ml of drops of betaxolol hydrochloride 5.6 mg;
in vials of 5 ml with a dropper cap.
Mechanism of action
Betoptic - antiglaucoma drug. Selective beta1-adrenergic blocker without internal sympathomimetic activity. Does not possess membrane stabilizing (local anesthetic) action.
When applied topically, betaxolol reduces intraocular pressure by reducing the production of intraocular fluid.
The onset of hypotensive action is observed 30 minutes after instillation, the maximum effect develops after 2 hours. After a single instillation, the effect on the IOP remains for 12 hours.
Betaxolol (compared with other beta-blockers) does not cause a decrease in blood flow in the optic nerve.
The use of Betoptic does not lead to the occurrence of miosis, spasm of accommodation, hemeralopia, the effect of "veil" in front of the eyes (unlike miotics).
Indications and usage
Intraocular hypertension; open-angle glaucoma.
It can be used in the treatment of patients with open-angle glaucoma and intraocular hypertension in combination with the pathology of the respiratory tract.
Contraindications
Individual hypersensitivity to Betoptic components.
With care: sinus bradycardia, AV block II – III degree, cardiogenic shock, severe heart failure, myasthenia gravis, diabetes mellitus.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Sufficient experience in the use of Betoptic during pregnancy, breastfeeding is not. It is possible to use Betoptic for treating pregnant and lactating mothers as prescribed by the attending physician if the expected therapeutic effect exceeds the risk of possible side effects.
Dosage and administration
In the conjunctival sac. 1-2 drops 2 times a day.
Adverse reactions
Local: most often - short-term discomfort in the eyes after instillation and tearing. In some cases - point keratitis, decreased corneal sensitivity, photophobia, tearing, itching, dry eyes, redness of the eyes, anisocoria and photophobia.
Systemic reactions (such as insomnia, depressive disorders) are rare.
The use of Betoptic for treating children may be prescribed by a doctor if the expected therapeutic effect exceeds the risk of side effects.
Storage conditions
