Active ingredient and dosage form
Loperamide - capsules: 1 capsule contains loperamide hydrochloride 2 mg; in the package 10 pcs.
Mechanism of action
Loperamide has an antidiarrheal effect.
Symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea caused by changes in the diet and qualitative composition of food, metabolic disorders and absorption, as well as allergic, emotional, medicinal, radiation genesis; with diarrhea of infectious genesis - as an aid; ileostomy (in order to reduce the frequency and volume of stool, as well as to give a density of its consistency).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, intestinal obstruction, diverticulosis, acute ulcerative colitis, pseudomembranous colitis caused by taking broad-spectrum antibiotics; other conditions in which the inhibition of intestinal peristalsis is unacceptable; acute dysentery (especially with the presence of blood in the stool and accompanied by increased body temperature); children's age (up to 2 years).
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Do not use Loperamide during pregnancy (especially in the first trimester) and breastfeeding (adequate and strictly controlled studies in pregnant and lactating women have not been conducted).
Adverse reactions
The adverse effects noted during clinical trials of loperamide hydrochloride are difficult to distinguish from the symptoms associated with diarrhea syndrome; these effects were usually mild and self-contained; in most cases, they were observed in the treatment of chronic diarrhea. These side effects included the following: hypersensitivity reactions, incl. skin rash, urticaria, extremely rare - anaphylactic shock and bullous rash, including toxic epidermal necrolysis (in most cases, patients took other drugs that could cause adverse reactions or contribute to their occurrence), abdominal pain, bloating or stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting, constipation, fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth.
There have been rare reports of cases of paralytic ileus in post-marketing research. Most of these messages were recorded in acute dysentery, overdose, in children under 2 years of age.
Dosage and administration
Loperamide is taken orally. Dosing regimen depends on the indications. Adults with acute diarrhea: initial dose of 4 mg, then 2 mg after each formless stool, the maximum daily dose is 16 mg; with chronic diarrhea at 4 mg / day. At normalization of stool consistency or absence of stool for more than 12 hours, treatment should be stopped. Children 2-12 years old - depending on age and body weight.
Storage conditions
In a dry, dark place at a temperature of no higher than 25 ° C. Shelf life - 4 years.
