pharmachologic effect

Improves erectile function. A drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It is a reversible selective inhibitor of specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) cGMP. When sexual arousal induces a local release of nitric oxide, inhibition of PDE5 by tadalafil leads to an increase in cGMP levels in the corpus cavernosum of the penis. The consequence of this is relaxation of the smooth muscles of the arteries and blood flow to the tissues of the penis, which causes an erection. Tadalafil has no effect in the absence of sexual stimulation.

Indications

Erectile dysfunction.

Method of administration and dosage

The drug is taken orally, regardless of food intake, at least 16 minutes before the expected sexual activity. The recommended maximum dose of the drug is 20 mg. The maximum recommended frequency of admission is 1 time / day

Side effects

Most often: headache, dyspepsia. Side effects are usually minor or moderate in severity, transient and decrease with continued use of the drug. Possibly: back pain, myalgia, dizziness, nasal congestion, flushing. Rarely: swelling of the eyelids, pain in the eyes, conjunctival hyperemia.Very rare: hypersensitivity reactions (including rashes, urticaria and facial edema, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and exfoliative dermatitis); arterial hypotension (in patients who have already taken antihypertensive drugs), hypertension and syncope; abdominal pain and gastroesophageal reflux; hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating); priapism and delayed erection; blurred vision, non-arterial anterior ischemic neuropathy of the optic nerve, retinal vein occlusion, visual field disturbance, migraine, epistaxis.

In patients with cardiovascular risk factors: myocardial infarction, sudden cardiogenic death, stroke, chest pain, palpitations, tachycardia. However, it is impossible to determine with certainty whether these events are directly related to these risk factors, tadalafil, sexual arousal, or a combination of these or other factors.

Contraindications

Simultaneous administration of drugs containing any organic nitrates; use in persons under the age of 18; hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
