pharmachologic effect

Laxative. Causes irritation of the intestinal receptor apparatus, has a direct effect on the intestinal mucosa, increasing its motility and increasing the secretion of mucus in the large intestine. The effect occurs after 6 hours when taken orally (when taken before bedtime after 8-12 hours) and during the first hour with rectal administration.

Not absorbed in the intestines. It is a prodrug, hydrolysis occurs in an alkaline medium with the formation of a substance that is irritating to the gastrointestinal mucosa.

Hypotonic and atonic constipation (including constipation in the elderly; constipation after surgery and childbirth). Regulation of the chair (hemorrhoids, proctitis, anus fractures). Preparation for surgery, instrumental and radiological studies.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, intestinal obstruction, strangulated hernia, acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal organs, peritonitis, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, metrorrhagia, cystitis, spastic constipation, acute proctitis, acute hemorrhoids, infancy. With caution - pregnancy, lactation, liver and / or kidney failure.

Inside, at bedtime or 30 minutes before breakfast, adults and children over 14 years old - 5-15 mg; children 2-7 years old - 5 mg; 8-14 years - 5-10 mg. Drops and pills are swallowed without chewing and squeezed with a small amount of water. Rectally prescribed in the following doses: adults and children over 14 years old - 10-20 mg (1-2 candles), children 8-14 years old - 10 mg; 2-7 years - 5 mg. When preparing for surgery or for diagnostic studies, 10–20 mg in the evening, inside and 10 mg in the morning (1 suppository) rectally.

Adverse reactions

Intestinal colic, diarrhea (dehydration, impaired water-electrolyte metabolism, muscle weakness, convulsions, decreased blood pressure), abdominal pain, flatulence, allergic reactions. Overdose. Symptoms: diarrhea, dehydration, impaired water and electrolyte balance, hypokalemia, atony of the colon. Treatment: symptomatic.

Do not apply for a long time.

Drug Interactions

Combined use with antacids can lead to premature dissolution of its shell and irritation of the stomach and duodenum. It is not recommended to take simultaneously with milk and alkaline mineral water.
