Insufficient calcium content in food, impaired absorption (pancreatic enzyme deficiency, achlorhydria, condition after gastroectomy, extensive bowel resections) or increased excretion from the body (chronic diarrhea, taking certain diuretic and anticonvulsant drugs).

As an anti-shock agent in the complex of resuscitation measures in case of hyperkalemia, hypocalcemia or overdose with drugs belonging to the group of calcium channel blockers; with intoxication with magnesium salts, oxalates, phosphates or fluorides, chlorine.
