Pills:
1 tab. contains: folic acid 5 mg,
Excipients: lactose monohydrate, povidone, crospovidone, microcrystalline cellulose, Magnesium stearate.;
30 pieces packaged.
Mechanism of action
Folacin is a vitamin preparation. Vitamin group B.
Folic acid in the body is converted to tetrahydrofolic acid, as a coenzyme involved in various metabolic processes, and necessary for the normal maturation of megaloblasts and the formation of normoblasts. With a folic acid deficiency, the megaloblastic type of blood formation develops. Folacin stimulates erythropoiesis, participates in the synthesis of amino acids (including methionine, serine, glycine), nucleic acids, purines, pyrimidines, in the metabolism of choline, histidine.
When pregnancy performs a protective function in relation to the action of teratogenic and fetus-damaging factors. Folacin contributes to the normal maturation and functioning of the placenta.
Indications and usage
- treatment and prevention of folic acid deficiency against the background of unbalanced or malnutrition;
- treatment and prevention of anemia against the background of folic acid deficiency (macrocytic hyperchromic anemia, anemia and leukopenia caused by drugs and ionizing radiation, megaloblastic anemia, post-resection anemia,sideroblastic anemia in elderly patients, anemia associated with diseases of the small intestine, sprue and malabsorption syndrome);
- treatment and prevention of anemia during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding);
- to prevent the development of congenital malformations in the fetus (neural tube defects);
- with prolonged use of folic acid antagonists (methotrexate or the combination of sulfamethoxazole - trimethoprim), anticonvulsant therapy (phenytoin, primidone, phenobarbital).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug; pernicious anemia; malignant neoplasms; cobalamin deficiency.
Dosage and administration
Folacin is prescribed inside.
For the treatment of megaloblastic anemia due to folic acid deficiency: 5 mg per day for 4 months, for prophylaxis - 2.5 mg per day.
For the prevention and treatment of macrocytic anemia in malabsorption, inflammatory bowel disease and unbalanced or malnutrition - 15 mg per day, patients with sprue disease - 5-15 mg per day.
To prevent fetal neural tube defects - 2.5 mg per day for 4 weeks before the expected pregnancy. Reception continues during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Higher maintenance doses of Folacin can be given to patients with alcoholism, as well as to patients with chronic infections and taking anticonvulsants.
Adverse reactions
From the digestive system: anorexia, nausea, bloating, bitterness in the mouth.
Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching, erythema, bronchospasm.
Special notes
Patients on hemodialysis need increased amounts of folic acid.
With prolonged use of folic acid, especially in high doses, it is possible to reduce the concentration in the blood of vitamin B12.
Long-term use of the drug is recommended to be combined with the intake of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin).
Storage conditions
In the dark place at a temperature of no higher than 25 ° C.
