Mechanism of action
A neuropeptide that suppresses the formation of luteinizing hormone and, accordingly, testosterone synthesis. The concentration of testosterone with continuous use of Buserelin for 14-21 days decreases to the level characteristic of the state of orchiectomy. Causes pharmacological castration.
Prostate cancer (in cases where it is shown inhibition of hormone production in the testes); disseminated breast cancer.
Adverse reactions
Dyspeptic phenomena, hot flashes are possible; rarely - gynecomastia, impotence, decreased libido; in isolated cases - thrombosis.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to buserelin.
With prolonged therapy, the use of buserelin as an aerosol is recommended. With confirmed hormone-dependent tumors of the prostate gland, it is possible to use buserelin throughout the life of the patient.
