Mechanism of action

Analeptic, antiseptic; It has a stimulating effect on the respiratory center - reflexively, acting through the receptors of the upper respiratory tract (the end of the trigeminal nerve). In high concentrations causes reflex respiratory arrest. When ingestion in small concentrations has an emetic effect increases the secretion of glands, reflexively increases the excitability of the emetic center and causes vomiting. When applied locally on the skin - antiseptic and detergent action. At the site of application, it dilates blood vessels, improves trophism, tissue regeneration and metabolite outflow. With prolonged contact, an irritating effect on the skin and mucous membranes can turn into cauterizing (coagulation of proteins) with the development of hyperemia, swelling and soreness.

It is rapidly excreted in any route of administration, mainly by the lungs and bronchial glands.
